The rumours surrounding Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir refused to die during India’s tour of England. Every training session and every video clip was closely watched by fans, with many claiming the two were avoiding each other.

But the latest scenes from London have told a different story.

Kohli and Gambhir were seen sharing a laugh during the Indian team’s visit to the Indian High Commission, giving fans a glimpse of a relaxed and friendly atmosphere within the squad. The moment quickly caught attention online, especially after weeks of speculation over their relationship.

The chatter had grown louder after several practice sessions where the two were not seen interacting on camera. That was enough for many on social media to suggest there was tension between India’s star batter and the head coach.

India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, however, had already dismissed those claims after the second ODI in Cardiff. He insisted there was no issue between Kohli and Gambhir and said the rumours had no basis.

There was more evidence on Sunday before the third ODI at Lord’s. Ahead of the toss, Kohli and Gambhir were spotted standing together near the boundary ropes, engaged in what appeared to be a long conversation as the team completed its final preparations.

“Virat and Gautam, they must have talked 10 times today. I don’t think he needs a bridge. I don’t know where the rumours come from, but they do come,” Kotak had said at the post-match press conference.

As India builds towards next year’s ODI World Cup, both Kohli and Gambhir will have key roles to play. Kohli’s experience remains vital to the batting unit, while Gambhir is leading the team’s preparations for one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar.

Rumours about their relationship have surfaced from time to time since Gambhir took charge in 2024. But going by their recent interactions in London and at Lord’s, there appears to be little truth behind the speculation, with both focused on the bigger goal of helping India succeed.
