The IPL 2026 season has already seen a few off-field controversies involving players and match officials breaking rules. After Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping inside the dressing room during an IPL match, another incident has now come to light involving Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

This time, Chahal was not involved during a match, but during travel. He was reportedly seen vaping on an airplane while flying to Hyderabad for a game scheduled on May 6. The video was shared by his teammate Arshdeep Singh on his YouTube channel, and it quickly spread across social media.

Riyan Parag was also fined earlier for Vaping during IPL match

After Parag’s earlier incident, he had been fined 25% of his match fee and given a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct. His action was seen as bringing disrepute to the game under Article 2.21 of the rules.

Now, with Chahal’s video going viral, questions are being raised about whether similar action will be taken against him. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already hinted that it is looking at stricter rules for players and teams involved in such incidents, although no fresh punishment has been announced yet.

One important difference in Chahal’s case is that the incident did not take place on the field or inside the stadium. Because of that, it is still unclear if the IPL disciplinary committee will take any official action. There is also talk about whether carrying and using a vape device on a flight could lead to further issues.

Chahal's performance vs SRH

On the cricketing side, Chahal had a mixed outing in the same match the next day. He picked up the wicket of Travis Head, but also had a tough time in the field. Punjab Kings dropped multiple chances off his bowling, including catches of Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan, which proved costly.

Both Klaasen and Kishan went on to score half-centuries as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a huge total of 235/4. Chahal finished his spell with 0/32 in four overs.
