Air India Express has inducted its 51st Boeing 737-8 aircraft into its fleet at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. This marks a significant milestone in the airline's fleet modernisation programme, as it is the carrier's first "line-fit" aircraft—specifically designed and configured by Boeing to meet Air India Express's unique requirements.
The aircraft was flown directly to India from Boeing's manufacturing facility in Seattle and is scheduled to enter commercial service in January.
Advanced Features For Passenger Comfort
The newly inducted line-fit Boeing 737-8 comes equipped with several modern amenities designed to enhance the passenger experience:
Seating: Seats feature comfortable cushioning with an improved ergonomic design.
Convenience: The cabin offers ample legroom and provides fast-charging power outlets at every seat.

Dining: Onboard ovens are installed to serve hot ‘Gourmair’ meals.
Cabin Ambiance: The aircraft features Boeing's Sky Interior with soft mood lighting, a quiet cabin environment, and large overhead bins for storage.
Fleet Expansion And Modernisation
With this addition, Air India Express has emerged as the country's largest Boeing operator under the Tata Group, boasting a total fleet of over 100 aircraft. In 2025 alone, the airline has expanded its operations by inducting four A321neo, four A320neo, and three A320ceo aircraft.
The airline is also actively upgrading its existing fleet to align with modern standards. Under this retrofitting initiative, 50 older Boeing 737-8 aircraft are being converted to a standardised 189-seat configuration. The retrofitting process has already been completed for two aircraft.
