The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to engage professional landscape architecture firms to improve the management, design, and redevelopment of its parks and green areas across the city. This marks a shift from the DDA’s earlier approach, where such work was handled internally.
Under the new initiative, empanelled firms will be responsible for planning, designing, and upgrading parks, plazas, and public open spaces, including suggestions for sustainable park development. One key focus will be the Yamuna floodplain, where the DDA aims to connect all existing and upcoming parks to create integrated recreational zones.

Over the last two years, the DDA has developed several recreational spots and biodiversity parks along the 22-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna, from Wazirabad Barrage to Okhla Barrage. These include projects such as Asita East and West, Kalindi Aviral, Baansera Park, Vasudev Ghat, Amrit Biodiversity Park, and Yamuna Vatika near Rajghat, covering a combined area of 740 hectares.
The tender issued by the DDA emphasises that firms must bring diverse design sensibilities, technical expertise, and innovative approaches for projects including floodplains, wetland parks, and biodiversity parks. Officials noted that many DDA parks are now used for cultural and artistic events, supporting a self-sustaining urban green space model while promoting social engagement.
So far, the DDA has developed over 16,000 acres of green space, including seven biodiversity parks, 11 major ecological restoration projects along the Yamuna floodplains, and more than 773 urban parks across Delhi.
