Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced a major push toward infrastructure development and pollution control, stating that the Delhi government has doubled its capital expenditure to Rs 30,000 crore. The enhanced spending will be directed toward improving roads, public transport, and basic civic infrastructure across the capital.

Addressing a gathering at Chhatrasal Stadium after hoisting the Tricolour on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, the Chief Minister said that Delhi’s entire public bus fleet would be converted to electric within the next three years. She said preparations for the plan have been completed and that the city will receive a total of 11,000 electric buses.

Presenting the report card of her 11-month-old government, Rekha Gupta said the administration has accelerated projects that had remained stalled for decades, guided by the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047 and the goal of building a Viksit Delhi. She highlighted reforms and initiatives undertaken in the education, health, and infrastructure sectors, along with a roadmap for future development.

The Chief Minister said January 26 symbolises India’s self-respect, democratic values, and complete self-rule, noting that the Tricolour was earned through sacrifice. She described 2025-26 as a year of national remembrance, marking key anniversaries including the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the 165th birth anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 150 years of Vande Mataram, and 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Listing the government’s achievements over the past 11 months, Rekha Gupta said meals are being provided for Rs 5 at 50 Atal Canteens, serving around 50,000 people daily. All hospitals in Delhi are being digitised, while 6.5 lakh people have been connected to the Ayushman Bharat scheme and over 300 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been launched. Vacancies for 4,000 doctors and paramedical staff are set to be filled.

She said the education budget has been fixed at 21 per cent, and a bill has been introduced to prevent arbitrary school fee hikes. An education hub is being developed in Narela for Rs 1,300 crore. The government has also announced the highest sports prize money in the country, with Rs 7 crore for Olympic gold, Rs 5 crore for silver, and Rs 3 crore for bronze medallists.

Other initiatives highlighted included the renovation of all Inter-State Bus Terminals, an increase in the Delhi Metro budget from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, free ‘Pink Bus Cards’ for women and transgender persons, installation of 10,000 new CCTV cameras, plans to relocate Tihar Jail, Rs 1,700 crore spent on village development, Rs 700 crore allocated for slum cluster development, and the construction of 10 new gaushalas in the capital.

The Chief Minister said Delhi has repeatedly risen stronger despite challenges, adding that the city represents not just infrastructure but the spirit of India itself.
