Ahead of Republic Day celebrations at the Municipal Corporation Primary School in Ashok Vihar Phase-I, E-Block, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh hoisted the national flag. During the ceremony, the Mayor announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will launch a new initiative called ‘Nigam Shri Schools’, following the models of PM Shri Schools and CM Shri Schools.

In the first phase, two Nigam Shri Schools will be established in each zone, where talented students will be selected for admission. These schools will focus on identifying and nurturing children’s talents and preparing them for future opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh extended Republic Day greetings and emphasised the corporation’s commitment to improving the standards of MCD schools. He appealed to citizens to cooperate in keeping the city clean, avoid burning waste in the open, and use public transport.

The Mayor also highlighted that MCD is continuously enhancing education quality by introducing modern teaching methods and providing smart boards and other facilities in schools. He said that education, values, and discipline form the foundation of a strong society.

Yogesh Verma, Chairperson of the event and Chairman of the MCD Education Committee, added that 100 talented students from Class 5 will be selected every year, and their names will be published on the corporation’s official website. The programme concluded with the national anthem and patriotic performances by the students.
