The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has extended the deadline for the Gole Market museum project to May 2026, citing repeated stoppages of construction work due to the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

According to NDMC officials, around 40 per cent of the civil work has been completed so far. The project, which began in October 2023, aims to restore the over 100-year-old Gole Market and convert it into a museum highlighting the contributions of women to the nation’s development.

The project was initially scheduled for completion in October 2025 but was later revised to March 2026 due to various delays. The latest extension pushes the completion timeline further to May 2026.

Work is also underway on a subway, which will serve as the entry point to the museum and include a lift facility. NDMC officials said that approvals for excavation took considerable time, and currently, about 15 per cent of the excavation work has been completed.

The total estimated cost of the Gole Market museum project is Rs 21.7 crore.
