The Delhi government is set to introduce shared taxi services and integrate private electric vehicles into commercial cab platforms to reduce road congestion and curb pollution. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa held a meeting with officials from the Transport Department and representatives of mobility aggregators, including Ola, Uber, and Rapido, to discuss the initiative.
The Minister highlighted that the government is working on tackling vehicular, industrial, and dust pollution, along with waste management. Shared taxi services and carpooling are expected to decrease the number of vehicles on Delhi’s roads, contributing to lower pollution levels.

Officials from cab companies said technical and operational preparations are underway. The Transport Department has been tasked with reviewing carpooling regulations and providing recommendations to promote it. A policy will also be formulated to allow private electric vehicles to operate on aggregator platforms without commercial fees, permits, or additional licensing requirements.
Minister Sirsa further directed the aggregators to promote green ride options in their apps and provide users with information on pollution reduction achieved through shared electric rides. Route-wise traffic data will also be collected to identify congested roads and optimise services.
