Delhi Weather: Delhi has entered a spell of severe cold, with the capital experiencing its first cold wave of the year in the opening week of January. Tuesday turned out to be one of the coldest days so far, as icy winds and falling temperatures made conditions harsh across the city.

Delhi Weather: Dense Fog Hits Visibility

Fog made a return to many parts of Delhi on Tuesday morning, affecting visibility at several locations. At Indira Gandhi International Airport, visibility dropped to 250 metres around 9 AM. Conditions gradually improved later in the day as the fog thinned. Although the sky remained clear and sunlight was visible, it failed to bring any real warmth. After sunset, the chill intensified further.

Weather officials said the cold conditions are being driven by icy winds and snowfall in the hill regions, which are pushing colder air into the plains. Similar weather is expected to continue for the next two days.

Delhi Temperatures Below Normal

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 15.7 degrees Celsius, which was 3.3 degrees below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature settled at 7.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal by 0.7 degrees. Humidity levels remained high, fluctuating between 100 per cent and 76 per cent during the day.

Delhi Weather: Yellow Alert Issued

According to the India Meteorological Department, cold wave conditions are likely to persist over Delhi for the next 48 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 15 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may drop to nearly six degrees. A yellow alert has been issued for both days to warn residents of the ongoing cold wave.

Delhi: Palam And Lodhi Road Coldest

Among the coldest areas in the city, Palam recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 13 degrees Celsius, which was 5.7 degrees below normal. Lodhi Road followed closely, recording 15.8 degrees Celsius, also well below average. Both locations experienced cold wave conditions during the day.

A cold wave is declared when temperatures fall between 4.5 and 6.5 degrees Celsius below the normal range.
