With Durga Puja preparations in full swing across Delhi, pandals are being designed around unique themes this year to offer devotees an immersive and unforgettable experience. The focus is on bringing the authentic art and cultural heritage of West Bengal to the capital.

A Journey Into Bengali Folk Art

In Central Delhi, the Arambagh Durga Puja Samiti is creating a pandal centered on two iconic Bengali themes: the state's fading tradition of Jatra, a form of folk theatre, and the revered Dakshineswar Kali Temple.

According to organizers Abhijit K. Bose and Inder Anil Sarkar, visitors will feel like they are on a cultural journey. The pandal will display historical items used in Jatra, and the stage for cultural performances is being built to resemble a traditional Jatra theatre. To ensure an authentic and grand appearance, all decoration materials have been sourced from Kolkata, while skilled artisans from West Bengal are crafting the idol of Maa Durga in Faridabad.

Kolkata's Grand Temple In Delhi

Similarly, the Minto Road Puja Samiti is preparing a pandal that promises to mesmerise visitors. Sukhendu Shekhar, the committee's secretary, said their pandal is being prepared as a grand replica of Kolkata's world-famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple.

This elaborate replica aims to provide a wonderful experience of Kolkata's Durga Puja right here in Delhi. Every architectural detail of the original temple has been carefully considered in the pandal's construction, making it an exact likeness.

Artisans, Culture And Festivities

Specialist artisans from West Bengal have been brought in to bring these ambitious themes to life. Using their decades-old skills, they are transforming traditional materials like clay and bamboo into stunning structures. To complete the immersive atmosphere, the corridors for devotees are being decorated in the style of old palaces.

The celebration will be further enriched by cultural programs featuring folk dance and music from artists invited from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Gurugram. This year, Delhi residents will not only seek the blessings of Maa Durga but will also get to experience the rich civilisation and culture of West Bengal firsthand.
