CBSE 12th Result 2026 Controversy: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an official statement on the growing controversy over low marks in the CBSE Class 12th result 2026 and the OSM evaluation system. The clarification came after the controversy emerged shortly after results were declared, with many students alleging unexpectedly low scores, particularly in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
Many students took to social media claiming discrepancies in their marks, with some even stating that despite qualifying competitive exams like JEE Main, they had failed or scored poorly in the board examinations. These concerns sparked a broader debate around the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

CBSE Defends OSM Evaluation System
Defending the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the Board clarified that the evaluation system follows strict guidelines and includes quality checks to maintain fairness in marking. The system is implemented to bring transparency, consistency, and error-free assessment of answer sheets and reduce manual evaluation errors.
Students Can Apply for Verification and Re-Evaluation
To address concerns over scoring discrepancies, CBSE has advised dissatisfied students to opt for verification and re-evaluation procedures. Students can first access scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets and then request re-evaluation if they believe there has been an error in marking.
CBSE Class 12th Overall Pass Percentage Drops This Year
The CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20%, marking a decline of 3.19 percentage points compared to last year. This is the lowest performance result in the last seven years.
Furthermore, candidates are advised to remain calm and not believe everything that's going on on social media. Those who believe their marks do not reflect their performance should make use of CBSE’s official verification and re-evaluation process within the announced deadlines.
