CBS OSM Evaluation System: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released Class 12th results on May 13, 2026. The overall pass percentage stood at 85.20%, marking a decline of 3.19% compared to last year’s 88.39%. This has triggered concern among students and parents after many reported lower-than-expected marks. Several students questioned the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system over variations in scoring, especially in core science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Some experts and educators have also joined the debate and questioned whether stricter evaluation and difficult papers led to the decline in scores.
Students Express Displeasure Over Lower Scores
The announcement of the CBSE Class 12 results this year has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many students expressing disappointment over their marks. A large number of students claimed that their scores were far below expectations despite performing well in competitive exams and school assessments.
One user took to the Twitter handle and expressed concerns about how they scored 98.58 percentile in the JEE Main 2026 exam, while only securing 28 marks in the CBSE Physics exam 2026.

What Is the On-Screen Marking System?
This year, CBSE introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 answer sheet evaluation. Under this system, answer copies were scanned digitally and evaluated online instead of being checked physically. The board said the move was aimed at improving transparency, reducing human errors, and speeding up the evaluation process.
According to CBSE, the digital system automatically handles tasks such as mark calculation and ensures that no answer is left unchecked. Officials also stated that the process increases consistency in marking standards.
