Dehradun Heatwave Holiday: In view of the severe and persistent heat gripping Dehradun district, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centers on Monday, April 27. The order was issued on Sunday by District Magistrate Savin Bansal and the District Disaster Management Authority, citing alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) regarding extreme temperature conditions prevailing across the district.

The holiday order covers all government, government-aided, and private schools from Class 1 through Class 12, along with all Anganwadi centers operating in the district. The administration has made it clear that no exceptions will be made, and strict compliance is expected from all educational institutions across Dehradun on Monday.

Increased Health Risks: Heatstroke and Dehydration Concerns

The district administration has flagged serious health risks associated with the ongoing heatwave, particularly for young students. Under the current extreme weather conditions, the administration has warned that the risk of heatstroke and dehydration has increased significantly. Sending children to school under such conditions could pose direct health hazards, prompting the administration to take proactive measures to protect students and the general public.

Strict Compliance Ordered Across All Educational Institutions

District Magistrate Savin Bansal has directed the Chief Education Officer and the District Program Officer to ensure that the holiday order is strictly followed across all schools and Anganwadi centers on Monday.

Both government and private institutions are bound by this order, and any violation will be treated seriously by the district administration.

The Meteorological Department has issued a multi-hazard alert for the region. While plains are expected to witness bright sunshine and a further rise in mercury levels on April 27, hilly regions may experience isolated instances of rain and snowfall. Additionally, warnings have been issued regarding the possibility of lightning strikes and dust storms in certain areas of the district, making outdoor activities inadvisable for residents across both plains and hilly zones.
