Delhi Government School Admissions: Admissions under the non-plan category for Classes 6 to 9 in Delhi government schools will commence from April 1 for the 2026–27 academic session, according to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, Delhi.
The department stated that the admission process will be conducted online in three separate cycles, allowing eligible students to apply for admission in government schools across the capital.
Non-Plan Admission Eligibility and Criteria:
Non-plan admissions are meant for students residing in Delhi whose studies have been disrupted due to special circumstances. These include situations such as the transfer of parents’ jobs or students who were previously studying in private schools up to the last grade.
According to the circular, the age criteria for admission as of March 31, 2026, require children to be between 10 and 15 years of age for Classes 6 to 9. However, the school authorities may grant age relaxation in certain special cases.
Students who have successfully passed the previous class will need to complete the registration process online. Meanwhile, out-of-school children aged between 10 and 14 years can register physically at their nearest government school. These students will undergo an assessment for foundational literacy and numeracy before being placed in a suitable class.
Admission Cycles and School Allotment Schedule
The admission process will be conducted in three cycles. The first cycle will begin on April 1 at 12 noon and continue until April 7 at 5 pm.
The second cycle will take place between April 30 and May 25, while the third and final cycle will run from July 1 to July 25.
School allotments for the first cycle will be announced on April 21. After the announcement, document verification will be carried out between April 22 and April 30. The department said similar timelines will be followed for the remaining two cycles.
The entire admission process is expected to conclude by August 31.
Registration Process and Support for Parents:
Parents seeking admission for their children must complete the online registration through the official website of the Directorate of Education. However, students who are currently studying in government or government-aided schools will need to approach the last school they attended for transfer or readmission procedures.
The department has also established a centralized helpline to assist parents with admission-related queries. Additionally, help desks will be available at the school levels to resolve grievances and guide parents through the process.
Authorities have advised parents to complete the registration as early as possible. Applying during the initial admission cycle may increase the chances of securing a seat in the preferred school.
