St. Stephen's College Dress Code: Affiliated with Delhi University, St. Stephen's College has rolled out new dress code rules for the new academic year. Principal Professor Susan Elias has issued the guidelines through an official notice and asked students to strictly follow them. According to it, wearing shorts is completely banned in several campus areas such as classrooms, tutorial rooms, laboratories, chapel, assembly hall, library, and dining halls. As the new academic session has started, students have raised their concerns about this new rule, calling it moral policing and interfering with their choice of clothing. Although the notice concerns the freshers who have taken admission this year, seniors also have to follow the new dress code.

Students Object To The Decision

Objecting to the decision, students call it moral policing and interference of authorities in their personal choice of dressing. However, several students have called the decision a long-standing tradition of the college that gets passed down. According to them, it is not enforced rigidly, and no student gets penalised for violating the dress code.

Sports Students Affected The Most

The dress code rule will most likely affect the sports students who generally come to the college campus in their official sportswear, including shorts for the morning practice. So far, the college has not given any official explanation behind the decision. Students need to follow the dress code from the first day of their academic session.

UP Government Also Imposes Dress Code

Apart from DU’s St Stephen's College, the Uttar Pradesh government has earlier directed all state-run universities to implement a mandatory school uniform. Under the new directive, the institution will now introduce uniforms based on designs and colours chosen independently by the college or university administration.
