The Delhi University (DU) has allocated a budget of Rs 67.71 crore for the establishment of a WiFi network spanning all its college campuses and a forthcoming girls' hostel in Mukherjee Nagar, northwest Delhi, as per an official document.

The Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) connectivity initiative will cover approximately 90 colleges situated on both the north and south campuses, along with the Dhaka Hostel complex, the document said, as reported by news agency PTI.

The implementation of the project will be funded through the loan corpus of Rs 938.33 crore acquired by the university from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) in October of the previous year for the execution of diverse developmental projects.

HEFA, a collaboration between Canara Bank and the Ministry of Education, extends financial support for the establishment of educational infrastructure and research amenities in India's leading educational institutions.

In 2022, Delhi University sought a HEFA loan to address its infrastructure requirements and expansion initiatives, encompassing the establishment of DU's east Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar and the inauguration of a new college in Najafgarh, among other projects. The agency has also approved proposals for an additional five projects to receive funding from the HEFA loan, with work commencing upon the sanctioning of funds.
