NCERT Textbooks Revisions: According to the Indian school education system transitions under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the (NCERT) has made several significant updates and modifications to its various textbooks for the upcoming academic session 2025 to 2026. 1.Redesigned Content Across Subjects: The particular updates cover various subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Languages, Social Sciences and Vocational Education. English, Maths, Hindi and other language books were refreshed with new and updated content and examples that talk about modern contexts and examples. Class 7th and 8th Social Science textbooks adopt a multidisciplinary structure and perspective in their content, integrating history, geography, and economics in a more integrated format. The purpose of the updated revisions is to replace content-heavy books with a balanced, engaging curriculum.
2. Emphasis on Indian Context and Culture: There are several changes in the textbooks of history and social sciences which reflect strong Indian cultural heritage, knowledge systems, and local traditions and culture. In this, the content related to ancient Indian civilisations and significant regional histories have been expanded to advanced level, where certain chapters on mediaeval periods such as the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal era have been revised and omitted according to the curriculum to align with the updated framework. This ensures that the content is relevant and relatable.
3. Digital Features and Interactive Learning: The new textbooks leverage digital tools to improve learning. There are several textbooks that include QR codes for students to online resources, educational workshops, government portals, and interesting quizzes. Digital editions on the NCERT platform allow easy downloads for those students who are into self-paced learning on gadgets, laptops and mobile phones. These features motivate students to go beyond the traditional method of studying, relying on the printed text and start engaging with multimedia resources.
4. New Competency Based Textbooks for Key Grades: The National Council of Educational Research and Training, NCERT has redesigned various textbooks for Classes 4, 5, 7, and 8 for the upcoming academic session 2025 to 2026. This revision introduced a competency approach to priorities conceptual learning, skill development and focuses on real-life context rather than rote memorisation. 5. Phased Rollout and Future Plans: These new and revised textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 will be distributed for the academic session 2025 to 2026. The NCERT plans to complete the rollout for Grades 9–12 by 2026–27. The Education Ministry has declared the printing capacity of the textbooks will be increased to ensure timely nationwide supply to students.
