OPJS University Latest News: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification stating that the Rajasthan government has barred Om Prakash Jogender Singh (OPJS) University in Churu from admitting new students for the 2024-25 academic session. Moreover, degrees awarded by the university over the last three years are now under scrutiny.
“As per the letter No. 3(1) Shikha-4/2023-00409 dated 06.11.2024 of the Higher Education Department, Government of Rajasthan, it is informed to the general public that the Government of Rajasthan has banned new admission in OPJS University, Churu, Rajasthan from the session 2024-25, and as per the information, the verification of the degrees issued by the university in the last three sessions in under process by the State Government. This public notice is issued for the information of students and stakeholders,” reads the notification.
In December 2023, the University Grants Commission (UGC) imposed a ban on PhD enrolments at a university due to violations of regulations. The UGC also issued a warning to prospective students and parents about potential admission challenges. To ensure compliance with UGC standards, a special committee was set up to monitor universities' degree-awarding processes. Initially, 14 institutions were asked to submit detailed information regarding PhD degrees awarded in 2018.
“It has been observed that inspite of repeated requests and a show-cause notice, OPJS University (Private University), Rawatsar Kunjla, Near Sankhu Fort, Rajgarh (Sadulpur), Jhunjunu Road, Churu, Rajasthan -331303 neither provided the required information nor attended the meeting. This non-adherence by the University has been viewed very seriously by the UGC. Accordingly, it has been decided to debar the University from enrolling scholars under its PhD programmes with immediate effect till such time the UGC clears the University to offer such programmes,” reads the notification.
