What is the RRB Normalisation Process?

To ensure that no candidate is disadvantaged due to a difficult shift, RRB uses a percentile-based normalization method for NTPC, Group D, ALP, and JE. Instead of using raw marks directly, RRB converts them into percentile scores, which are then used to prepare the merit list. This entire process is called the normalisation process.

RRB Normalised Marks Calculation Formula:

X = Percentile Score of the candidate
N = Normalized Marks
Case 1: If the candidate’s percentile exists in Base Shift
If the same percentile exists in Base Shift, the corresponding marks are directly taken as Normalized Marks.
Case 2: If Percentile is Greater Than or Equal to Minimum Percentile of Base Shift

X2 = Immediate higher percentile in Base Shift
X1 = Immediate lower percentile in Base Shift
Y2 = Marks corresponding to X2
Y1 = Marks corresponding to X1
Case 3: If Percentile is Less Than Minimum Percentile of Base Shift

X2 = Next higher percentile
