Uttar Pradesh Schools Closed: All schools and educational institutions up to Class 12th in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed till January 5, 2026 due to severe cold wave. The order for school closure has come from UP's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all schools affiliated with the ICSE, CBSE have been ordered to close until January 5. Yogi Adityanath also instructed officials to stay on alert, carry out field inspections, distribute blankets to the needy, stop people from sleeping outdoors, and ensure proper safety at the centres.
On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department had published a weather forecast – warning of extreme dense fog and cold waves over Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, Chandigarh among other states.
In the national capital, all the schools and institutions are also closed from January 1 to 15 due to winter vacations. Schools in Punjab will observe winter vacations from December 22 to January 10, Haryana winter vacations from January 1 to 15, 2026.

Cold Wave Across UP:
Uttar Pradesh is currently reeling under intense winter conditions and extreme cold waves, with dense to very dense fog and below-normal temperatures affecting normal life of people across Uttar Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On January 2, 3 and 4, 2026 the state is expected to witness extreme dense to very dense fog at various isolated areas and places, which will affect road, rail and air movement.
