ZPM Wins Clear Majority To Form Govt In Mizoram | Highlights

The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) will form a government in Mizoram as the party wins the clear majority.

Celebrations continue at the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) office in Aizawl as the party looks all set to form the government in the state. The party has won 19 seats and is leading on 8 seats so far.

As the counting of votes across 40 seats is underway, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Mizorm's main opposition party won 18 seats and is leading on 9. Meanwhile, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) won 6 seats and is leading on 4.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Mizo National Front (MNF) chief Zoramthanga lost from his constituency in Aizawl East I.

"... Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I will meet the Governor...Swearing-in will be within this month..." Lalduhoma says.

"...Mizoram is facing financial crises... That is what we are going to inherit from the outgoing government...We are going to fulfil our commitment... Financial reform is necessary, and for that, we are going to make a resource mobilisation team..." Lalduhoma says, who wins election Serchhip seat.

According to ECI, ZPM's CM face candidate Lalduhoma wins the Serchhip seat. The counting of votes is underway.

South Tuipui: ZPM candidate Jeje Lalpekhlua wins against MNF's Dr R Lalthangliana with a margin of 135 votes.

Kolasib: Lafamkim, ZPM candidate wins against MNF candidate K Lalrinliana with a margin of 1,169 votes.

ZPM candidate Lalnghinglova Hmar won the election from Aizawl West-II against MNF's Lalruatkima with a margin of 4,819 votes. 

As ZPM is leading in Mizoram, party candidate Lalduhoma says this is what he expected. "...I am not surprised this is what I expected... Let the full results come out... The counting process is going on..." Lalduhoma tells ANI.

As per the latest ECI trend, MNF (Mizo National Front) is leading on 5 seats while ZPM (Zoram People's Movement) is trailing on 3.

BJP and Congress are leading on 1 each. The counting of votes on all 40 seats is underway.

"...We started at 8 a.m. with the postal ballots...Now we have started with round one of EVMs...Everything is peaceful... We have 12 counting halls...We are prepared for any victory procession and any celebrations that happen... We have CAPF deployed in the innermost Cordon and state police in the outer Cordon..." Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar says.

The vote counting of the Mizoram Assembly election was supposed to take place on Sunday along with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. However, it was rescheduled following appeals by political parties, NGOs, churches and student bodies as Sunday holds a special significance for the people of Mizoram, a Christian-majority state.

According to exit polls, the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) are the primary rivals. While Jan ki Baat-News 18 and India Today-Axis show a definite advantage for the ZPM.

Security stepped up at the counting centre in Serchhip where the counting of votes for the Mizoram Assembly Elections will begin shortly.

Preparations are in progress at the Aizawl counting centre, where the Mizoram Assembly Elections vote counting will soon take place.

The counting for the assembly polls of Mizoram will begin at 8 AM today. Polling across 40 constituencies in Mizoram was held on November 7.
