The makers of the Malayalam language romantic comedy film Christy have announced its OTT release date. Starring Mathew Thomas and Malavika Mohanan in the lead roles, the film has been helmed by debutant director Alvin Henry.
The plot of Christy revolves around Roy, a village boy who's a failure at studies and joins Christy's tuition. They become good friends, however later when Christy gets a job abroad, Roy's life changes. Christy is based on real-life events.
Christy will be making its digital premiere on OTT giant Sony LIV. The movie will begin streaming from March 10, 2023.
Malavika Mohanan has been a part of several Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films. The actor recently spoke about the pay parity in industries and said that she is glad that such conversations are happening.
“Even when it comes to pay disparity, the biggest female actor in Hindi [Bollywood] and the biggest male actor in Hindi have salaries with a ridiculous difference. The same goes for all the other industries as well. Some industries disguise it better,” said Malavika Mohanan in an interview with Gulf News.
The actor further added, “I am just glad that there are so many conversations happening about it right now. We can see and hear about a lot of changes happening in Hollywood. There are some female actor putting their foot down and demanding the same money that’s being paid to their male counterpart especially in movies where they have more to do.”
Malavika Mohanan added that one has to go deeper into why that is happening in the first place. “We live in a very patriarchal society where male needs are always given more importance than female needs. Women’s wants and needs are just casually dismissed and there’s zero sensitivity towards them and complete disregard in most cases. So it comes from our patriarchal misogynistic mindset,” Malavika Mohanan said in her interview.
