Hulchul Review: The main actors in the comedy-drama Hulchul were Amrish Puri, Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, and Arshad Warsi. Asrani, Upasana Singh, Sharad Khelkar, Mano Joshi, Arbaaz Khan, and Shakti Kapoor all had significant roles in the comedy drama. Hulchul is a great choice if you're looking for some brain-rotting comedy. The 2004 release is a remake of the popular Malayalam film Godfather (1991), and Priyadarshan has created a true masterpiece with this multistarrer.

Hulchul is about the wealthy landlady of the nearby village, Laksmidevi, who faces off against the powerful landlord Angarchand, who is the head of the town's elite family. Due to a previous family tragedy, Angaarchand and his four sons—Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Akshay Khanna, and Arbaaz Khan—have vowed to avoid women, and they are rigorously prohibited from discussing the other sex.

Lakshmidevi, meanwhile, is looking for a chance to exact revenge on Angaarchand and his family. As fate would have it, Jay, Angaarchand's youngest son, and Anjali, Lakshmidevi's granddaughter, fell in love. What transpired in the biggest scam in romance cinema to date was a comedy of errors and deceit between the characters and their families, who were attempting to outdo each other.

Why Hulchul Reminds Of Hera Pheri?

Akshaye Khanna and Kareena Kapoor look terrific together, even in their love-hate song Rafta Rafta. But for me, it is not about them. Hulchul's three primary characters - Jai (Akshaye Khanna), Lucky (Arshad Warsi), and Kishan (Paresh Rawal)- were its strongest points. The comedy movie reminds you of Hera Pheri here and there with this trio's camaraderie.

Maybe because I am inclined towards picking up on even the smallest details of Bollywood comedies from the early 2000s, there was a very slight moment in Hulchul that I was reminded of Hera Pheri. When Arbaaz Khan told Arshad Warsi, "Sun be Makhi," and he responded, "Mere naam Lucky hai," followed by Arbaaz's "Abe tu koi bhi chakkii ho." I was instantly reminded of Babu Bhaiyya (Paresh Rawal) and Shyam (Suniel Shetty) from Hera Pheri.

Different scenes with the same lighthearted humour. For someone like me who enjoys identifying such connections, viewing Bollywood comedies is made much more enjoyable by these subtle recognisable rhythms.

Additionally, several people thought that Hulchul was a true tribute to Priyadarshan's beloved comedy Hera Pheri. In the early 2000s, the filmmaker's distinctive chaos-comedy style featured characters who were always in the wrong place at the wrong time, mistaken identities, and out-of-control coincidences. The ideal was clearly visible in Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal starrer Hera Pheri (2000). The same style was then used in Hulchul (2004).

I feel these similarities stem from Priyadarshan's funny DNA, recurrent themes, and his shooting style at the time, even though it isn't really an official homage.

To be honest, I thought Hulchul was a multi-star film with action, humour, drama, and romance. Every character is amazing. Arshad Warsi, who has claimed to have had a bad experience on Hulchul set, was unquestionably one of the best comic actors. In one of his early films, he demonstrated how he could add depth to a scene in an individual capacity.
