For Bollywood stars, the spotlight does not always stop with film releases and award functions. Over the years, some of the Bollywood celebrities have found themselves at the centre of police complaints, criminal trials, property disputes, and defamation battles.
From Salman Khan’s long-running blackbuck case to Sanjay Dutt’s conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, these legal battles followed celebrities for many years.
Here is a look at eight prominent Bollywood celebrities who faced legal battles.

1. Amitabh Bachchan
About the case: During a September 28, 2011 episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan said: "Sabse pehle Ved aaye… phir Bible aaya, phir racha gaya Quran… aur aakhir mein Guru Granth Sahib hua," while referring to the Quran.
A Jhansi resident, Mudassir Ullah Khan, alleged that ‘racha gaya’ (composed) insulted the Islamic belief that the Quran was revealed by Allah.
What happened later: Khan sought criminal action, but lower courts rejected his pleas.
Verdict: NDTV reported on January 28, 2013, that the Allahabad HC dismissed the petition, holding that “racha gaya” could mean the Quran was composed by Allah, not a person.

2. Arijit Singh
About the case: On August 14, 2025, Santiniketan resident Kamalakanta Laha filed a complaint against Arijit Singh and his security guard, alleging he was stopped at a roadblock during Singh’s video shoot.
Laha stated that he was harassed during the incident and also alleged that his gold ring went missing.
What happened later: The Times of India reported on August 15, 2025, that police were investigating the complaint. Two days later, the complainant and Arijit Singh's security guard were called to the police station to resolve the dispute.
Verdict: There was no reported criminal conviction. It was reported that the security guard apologised for causing inconvenience, and the complainant subsequently withdrew the complaint after both sides mutually resolved the matter.

3. Shah Rukh Khan
About the case: During a January 23, 2017, Raees promotion at Vadodara railway station, Shah Rukh Khan waved to crowds and threw T-shirts and smiley balls. A stampede-like situation followed, and Farid Khan Pathan died of a heart attack.
What happened later: Criminal proceedings were initiated against Khan, who approached the Gujarat High Court seeking to quash the case. The Times of India reported in July 2017 that the Gujarat High Court had stayed the criminal proceedings.
Verdict: In April 2022, the Gujarat High Court quashed the criminal proceedings. The court held that Khan's actions could not be termed acts of a very high degree of negligence or recklessness.

4. Salman Khan
About the case: Salman Khan was accused of hunting two blackbucks near Kankani village in Rajasthan in 1998, during the shooting of Hum Saath-Saath Hain. The case also involved Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, Neelam and others as co-accused.
What happened later: A Jodhpur trial court convicted Salman Khan in April 2018 and sentenced him to five years in prison, while the other accused in that particular case were acquitted. Khan appealed against his conviction.
Verdict: The matter has not reached a final appellate verdict. In February 2026, Rediff, citing PTI, reported that the Rajasthan High Court judge hearing the appeals recused himself and directed that the matter be placed before another bench.

5. Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan
About the case: In 2016, Hrithik Roshan complained to the police that someone had impersonated him by creating a fake email account and communicating with Kangana Ranaut. Ranaut disputed his allegations and gave her own account of their relationship.
What happened later: Police investigated the emails and electronic devices connected to the complaint.
Verdict: NDTV reported that Mumbai Police submitted a closure report in December 2023, ending the investigation into Roshan’s complaint, without resolving their conflicting claims about their relationship.

6. Nawazuddin Siddiqui
About the case: In January 2016, a woman at Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Mumbai housing society alleged that he pushed and misbehaved with her during a dispute over parking.
India Today reported that Versova police registered an FIR against Siddiqui under Section 354 IPC. Siddiqui denied the allegations, calling them false.
What happened later: Siddiqui’s wife, Aaliya, filed a counter-FIR against four people, alleging they assaulted her and tried to enter her home.
Verdict: No reported conviction resulted from the 2016 complaint.

7. Saif Ali Khan
About the case: Saif Ali Khan has been involved in a long-running property inheritance case. The dispute concerns the private properties of Bhopal’s last Nawab, Hamidullah Khan, and competing claims among his heirs.
What happened later: In June 2025, the Madhya Pradesh High Court set aside a decades-old trial-court order concerning the inheritance dispute and sent the matter back for fresh consideration.
Verdict: There is no final resolution of the property dispute.

8. Sanjay Dutt
About the case: Sanjay Dutt was arrested during the investigation into the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts after an AK-56 rifle and ammunition were recovered in connection with him. He faced charges under the Arms Act as well as terrorism-related provisions.
What happened later: The TADA court acquitted Dutt of terrorism-related charges but convicted him under the Arms Act for illegal possession of prohibited weapons. He challenged the conviction before the Supreme Court.
Verdict: In March 2013, the Supreme Court upheld Dutt's Arms Act conviction but reduced his sentence from six years to five.
Times of India reported that the court agreed with his acquittal on the terrorism charges but upheld the weapons conviction. His review petition was subsequently dismissed, and he served the remaining sentence.
