Why is BTS boycotting Grammys 2027?
This decision reads as a direct rejection of the Recording Academy’s recent overhaul, particularly its introduction of five new Grammy categories in June.
Among these additions was Best Asian Pop Music Performance, a category designed specifically to honour tracks originating from or popular in Asian markets that feature significant use of one or more Asian languages.
By opting out, BTS sends a clear message against being compartmentalised by region or language. Rather than accepting a newly carved-out category, the group’s choice underscores their belief that music should be evaluated on its universal artistic merit rather than restricted by geographic and linguistic boundaries.
