Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is teaming up once again with producer Ektaa Kapoor for a new romantic film titled Heer Ranjha. The film will serve as the second instalment in the Laila Majnu franchise and will be directed by Sajid Ali.The announcement has created excitement among fans of classic love stories, especially after the cult resurgence of Laila Majnu in recent years.
According to an official press release, Heer Ranjha will carry forward the emotional depth and legacy of Laila Majnu. The makers have said that the film will present a poetic and emotionally rich cinematic experience, while adapting the legendary love story for today’s generation. The first look poster of Heer Ranjha was unveiled on Valentine’s Day, adding to the romantic appeal of the announcement.
The 2018 film Laila Majnu, starring Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary, did not perform well at the box office when it first released. However, after its re-release in 2024, the film received strong appreciation and developed a cult following. The renewed love for Laila Majnu encouraged the makers to expand the franchise. With Heer Ranjha, they aim to continue exploring epic love stories rooted in Indian culture while making them relatable for modern audiences.

Meanwhile, reports confirm that Rohit Saraf will play the role of Ranjha in the upcoming film. The 29-year-old actor has gained popularity through projects like Ishq Vishk Rebound, Mismatched and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Industry sources suggest this could be one of his most challenging and intense roles so far. A newcomer has reportedly been finalised to play Heer, although her identity has not yet been revealed. The makers are expected to make an official announcement soon.
What’s Next For Rohit Saraf?
Apart from Heer Ranjha, Rohit Saraf will appear in the fourth and final season of Mismatched alongside Prajakta Koli. The series will stream on Netflix later this year. He is also set to play a freedom fighter in Nikkhil Advani’s historical web series The Revolutionaries.
