According to trade analysts at Sacnilk, Michael collected Rs 2.30 crore net in India on Wednesday (Day 6). This brings its total domestic net collection to Rs 23.45 crore (£2.3 million approx.), with a total gross collection of Rs 28.07 crore. The film saw a respectable 10% occupancy across 2,722 shows on Wednesday.
The film's journey began with Rs 1.70 crore in Thursday previews, followed by an opening day of Rs 3.70 crore. It witnessed a significant surge over the weekend, earning Rs 5.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 5.85 crore on Sunday. Although collections dipped on Monday to Rs 2.25 crore, they remained consistent throughout the week.
Dan Reed Accused Michael's Biopic Of False Narrative
While fans see the movie as a tribute, it has drawn fierce criticism from Dan Reed, the Emmy-winning director of the documentary Leaving Neverland. Dan Reed, who documented sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson, accused the biopic of promoting a false narrative.
In an interview with Variety, Dan Reed expressed his discomfort with how the film portrays Jackson's interactions with children. He stated, “That made me feel really icky. It suggests that Jackson’s engagement with children was entirely benign and motivated by nothing but philanthropy… what the movie does is creates a version of events that essentially portrays Wade, James, and others who’ve accused Jackson of child sexual abuse as liars without actually articulating it.”
Despite these serious accusations and a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film remains a global commercial success, having already crossed the $100 million mark in the United States.
