Obsession, made on a modest budget, earned nearly Rs 78 crore at the Indian box office, according to trade reports.
Obsession has just barely surpassed Project Hail Mary, which is valued at Rs 75.09 crore, in the process. This is one of the closest box office contests among Hollywood releases in India this year, with just Rs 0.60 crore separating the two movies.

At the worldwide front, Obsession became Focus Features' most successful movie to date, earning over $200 million at the box office. In just 26 days since its May 15 US premiere, the movie has made $234,501,640 (Rs 2240 crore) globally, according to industry tracker Box Office Mojo.
Obsession Director REACTS To Box Office Success
Obsession director Curry Barker said he had not expected the movie to be a great hit. He emphasised that he was surprised by the response, both in India and elsewhere.
Speaking with Variety India, the filmmaker said, "I definitely did not expect Obsession to be a big hit in India. I didn’t expect it to be a big hit anywhere, really. You hope and dream that your movie is successful and that it resonates with people."
He added, "But I can’t believe what it’s doing. I mean, we made this movie for nothing. I just can’t believe that it’s getting the recognition that it’s getting."
