In a year when Hanuman Ansh turned into a sleeper hit through strong word of mouth, Kannada movie Premada Oorali is also proving that a film does not need a superstar or a massive budget to become a theatrical success. 

Directed by National Award winner Manoj Kumar, the romantic family drama has steadily grown after its release. The India net collection, as per Sacnilk, is ₹17.57 crore by its 11th day and at 673 screens, as compared to ₹9 lakh and 60 screens on opening day.

What makes Premada Oorali particularly noteworthy is the gap between its modest production cost and its box-office performance. The extraordinary return on investment has prompted trade comparisons with much larger releases such as Toxic.  

While Yash-Kiara starrer Toxic was made with a reported massive budget of ₹500 crore, the total net collection was just ₹248 crore in India by Day 17, and the film also struggled to justify its production scale. 

That is why Premada Oorali is now being described as one of the most profitable Kannada films of the year. 

What Is The Story Of Premada Oorali?

Premada Oorali is set in rural settings. The movie follows Santhu, a young farmer who lives with his father Naganna in a village. Naganna raised Santhu single-handedly and wants to see him achieve bigger things in life rather than just being a farmer. 

However, Santhu is content with his simple life and has little interest in leaving his father and village behind.

The movie takes a comedy-dramatic turn when marriage enters the picture. Santhu’s childhood friend Vasantha develops romantic feelings for him. At the same time, his family considers Rukmini, an educated woman who has returned from the US, as a potential bride. 

The film uses Santhu, Vasantha and Rukmini to explore questions about marriage, women's choices, family expectations and the judgement attached to a woman's past. The story eventually moves away from the easy romantic setup and into more complicated emotional territory.

Cast Of Premada Oorali

Rangayana Raghu plays Naganna and anchors the film. His character has a father who gave warmth as well as restraint, giving the story its emotional foundation. 

Shree Raam plays Santhu in the film. In an interview with Times of India, he revealed that he spent a month in Mandya learning farming. He began his days with early mornings, working in fields and observing farmers to understand their physicality and mannerisms. 

Ramika Shivu has made her big-screen debut with Vasantha, and Thapaswini Poonaccha plays Rukmini.
