Salman Khan's upcoming movie Maatrubhumi, which also stars Chitrangada Singh, may now release in 2027 instead of its expected date. The reported delay comes as the film is said to have drawn the Ministry of Defence's attention over certain parts of its content, including references to China.
Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi Postponed For 2027?
According to Bollywood Hungama, the Ministry of Defence's concerns over references to China are believed to have delayed Maatrubhumi. The report added that even if the issues are resolved, getting a major release date could be difficult as several big Indian films have already booked key slots.
"The issues are yet to be resolved. Even if they are resolved soon, it will now be difficult to secure a good release slot, as most major dates have already been taken," a source close to the movie told the publication.
"In our industry, it is common for actors and filmmakers to take over a date that has already been claimed by another film. But Salman Khan is an exception. He is very fair and doesn’t believe in clashing with another film unnecessarily. Even if he decides to clash, he will inform the other party before making an announcement."
Dussehra appears to be a viable time for the Maatrubhumi's release, according to the industry insider, but only once all the problems are fixed. "Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 20, this year. Even the day before Dussehra usually functions like a major holiday, with collections witnessing a jump. Hence, Maatrubhumi could benefit from an extended five-day weekend of sorts."
It is anticipated that Ramayana will be rescheduled for October 30. No significant release is planned until the final week of November, after that, it can be advantageous for Maatrubhumi.

In case you didn't know, the movie was earlier titled Battle of Galwan. Director Apoorva Lakhia told Hindustan Times that the decision to change the title was not made hastily. He revealed that they registered two titles.
"Changing the title may feel sudden to SK sir's fans, but it was never an overnight decision. From the start, we had registered two titles: Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi. As we went through the journey of making our film, we realised it was never just about a battle. At its heart, the film is about humanity, empathy, and the silent battles our soldiers fight."
Meanwhile, Salman Khan is currently filming Vamshi Paidipally's untitled film, which stars Nayanthara as the female lead.
