Varanasi, starring Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, is one of the highly-anticipated movies, directed by acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli. The film's teaser launch took place at Ramoji Filmcity in Hyderabad, which was attended by the entire star cast of Varanasi. While the production team has maintained a strict 'closed-door' policy regarding the film's narrative, the veil of secrecy has finally been lifted.
A leaked synopsis—reportedly drafted by a VFX firm collaborating on the project—has surfaced online, offering an unauthorized first look at the movie's central plot points and world-building details.
According to Cine Site, the synopsis of Varanasi reads, "A Shiva devotee embarks on a perilous quest across time to uncover a lost cosmic artifact of immense power. As he pieces together ancient secrets hidden through centuries, he realizes the truth behind his mission-the very force that set him on this path is a calculating mastermind with a vision of absolute global domination. Forever. Unveiled."
About the movie: SSMB29, officially titled Varanasi, is grander than anyone would have ever thought. The upcoming movie will introduce new technology to Telugu cinema. It is being entirely shot in the Premium Large Format- IMAX. What makes SS Rajamouli's 'dream project' bigger is his vision behind making the film and the dream cast- Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. With these elements combined, Varanasi is strongly positioned to be the next major blockbuster hit in theatres, following the global impact of RRR.

If the reports are to be believed, Varanasi is being made on a reported budget of around Rs 1200 crore. This includes the construction of elaborate sets (including a Rs 40 crore recreation of the iconic ghats of the city). Varanasi will release in theatres on April 7, 2027.
