Sunny Deol is set to bring back a grittier, troubled character in his upcoming movie, Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak. The actor has unveiled his first look, revealing a brooding avatar on October 12, 2026.

Sunny Deol captioned the post, “Torn between Past and Present, He uncovers the TRUTH!” The poster offers little about the plot, but reveals a central theme of dark investigation that forces him to confront buried secrets and ghosts from his past.

Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak is a crime thriller which is set to release in theatres on November 20, 2026. It has been confirmed that the movie is a Hindi adaptation of Joseph, the 2018 Malayalam thriller starring Joju George.

The remake raises an obvious question. Will it be able to preserve the emotional weight of the Malayalam film while making the character work for a Hindi-speaking audience?

Suryaa Movie First Look: What Does Sunny Deol’s Poster Reveal?

The first-look motion poster of Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak presents Sunny Deol as a grizzled man. With a tough face, a rugged beard, and an intense expression.

He is seen with a cigarette and restrained body language that speaks in layers.

In the movie, Deol is reportedly playing the lead role as a retired police officer drawn into a complex investigation. However, the first look does not reveal substantial plot details.

How Is Suryaa Different From The Original Malayalam Movie Joseph?

In Jospesh, Joju George plays the lead role of a retired police officer whose excellent investigation skills draw him into a criminal case following the death of his wife.

The 2018 Malayalam movie was directed by M. Padmakumar and written by Shahi Kabir. In an interview with The New Indian Express ahead of its release, Kabir described Joseph as ‘a character study and an investigation story rolled into one’.

He also explained that the protagonist’s experience is how an ex-cop approaches a case.

That description is important to understand what is at stake in the remake. Joseph was not simply about identifying a culprit; its investigative premise was closely tied to the psychology and personal circumstances of its central character.

With Deol in the lead, Suryaa has an opportunity to reinterpret that role through a different screen persona. Whether the Hindi version gives the character a substantially different treatment is not established, as the makers have not disclosed details about the whole plot.

Claims about major changes to the plot, characters or ending would be premature.

However, the return of M. Padmakumar as the director could give the Hindi version familiarity with the original movie. But the screenplay team is different, with Karan Razdan, Neeraj Pathak and Mayank Sharma as co-writers, while Kabir is credited with the story.
