Swara Bhasker Slams New Taliban Law: The Taliban government in Afghanistan has enacted a new penal code that, according to critics, essentially condones domestic abuse under some circumstances, a move that has caused international indignation. Public personalities have responded strongly to the decision, such as actor Swara Bhasker, who harshly criticised the regulations in a series of social media posts.
Swara Bhasker shared media headlines regarding the recently passed law on February 20 and was clearly angry. "Unf**king-believable!!!!! Honestly among the worst specimens of the human race, relentlessly cruel and brutal, absolute monsters the Taliban. An insult to humanity and to the religion they claim to represent. Absolutely despicable."
Swara Bhasker's comment from her Instagram story were soon shared by others on social media. The actor has often shared her thoughts on political and social developments in India and beyond. Gauahar Khan and other actors have also voiced their disapproval to the same.

Swara Bhasker's remarks coincided with the announcement that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban's supreme leader, had signed a comprehensive 90-page penal code. The Independent reported that the Taliban's new legal code permits domestic assault by a husband under specific circumstances. The burden of proof rests with the woman, and punishment is only applied if the husband beats his wife with a stick and causes serious harm.
Even in that case, the husband's maximum punishment is 15 days in jail. Women's freedome and legal protection are further curtailed by the fact that a woman who leaves her husband's house without permission faces up to three months in jail and that family members who provide her with refuge may also be charged with a crime.
