The Odyssey: Christopher Nolan’s directorial movie is slated for release in theatres on July 17, 2026. It is one of the most anticipated films since the announcement, not only for the stellar cast but also for the filmmaker. Amid the buzz about The Odyssey, the IMAX tickets for the film will go on sale on July 17, as reported by Variety. The ticket sale date is exactly the release date of the movie, which is a year in between. The tickets will be limited as they will only be available for selected showtimes and exclusively at theatres which have IMAX 70mm screens. Notably, it is Nolan’s preferred format for large-screen storytelling. Universal Pictures and IMAX have yet to confirm the early ticket sales.

The Odyssey is about a legendary king of Ithaca named Odysseus, who follows the journey of home following the Trojan War. He encounters mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe. He culminates his reunion with his wife, Penelope. It is an adaptation of the ancient Greek epic poem The Odyssey attributed to Homer.

The film features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Cosmo Jarvis, John Leguizamo, Corey Hawkins, Shiloh Fernandez, Will Yun Lee and Himesh Patel in prominent roles. The Odyssey has been produced by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas. Ludwig Göransson is the music director of the movie. Nolan began writing the film after the success of the 2023 movie Oppenheimer. The Odyssey was officially announced by Universal Pictures on December 23, 2024.
