National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri's Pyre, which follows an elderly couple in the Kumaon Himalayas, will be released in cinemas across India on October 23.
Distributed by Cinepolis, Pyre, an independent romance-drama, has already travelled across the international festival circuit.

The filmmaker confirmed its release through a moving caption with the poster.
Pyre Cast, Plot And Key Details
"Pyre is ultimately a film about love between two people who have spent their lives together, and between parents and their children," the filmmaker said in a statement.
The film follows Padam Singh and Tulsi, an ageing couple living in the Kumaon Himalayas. Padam Singh is a retired Army man, while Tulsi is a homemaker, widow and former dancer.
Interestingly, the actors had never appeared on screen before this film. Padam Singh Kapri, 80, plays Padam Singh, while Heera Devi, 70, plays Tulsi.
Their real-life backgrounds became an important part of the filmmaker's approach to the film. He wanted their performances to feel natural and lived-in rather than rehearsed.

Pyre also looks at how migration has changed life in remote Himalayan communities. Their children have moved away in search of better opportunities, leaving the couple to build their lives around their home, memories and each other.

According to the makers, Pyre has won 18 international awards, including 15 Best Film honours.
