Veteran actor Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours late on Thursday night at his farmhouse in Pune. Many people asked why the cremation took place so late, especially since several film stars still wanted to pay their last respects.

Why Nana Patekar's Last Rites Performed Late At Night

The actor's son, Malhar Patekar, calmly explained the family's decision. He said a lot of time had already passed since the actor's death early that morning, so the family chose to go ahead.

Nana Patekar's body was brought from Goa to the farmhouse later in the day. The funeral began very late at night.

"We were in Goa, and his mortal remains were to be brought to the farmhouse in the village. We expected it to arrive earlier, but it took us some time. We proceeded because the tragedy occurred early this morning, so a significant amount of time had already passed. That is why we decided to go ahead with it today."

Malhar lit the pyre at around 11:30 PM. Several dignitaries and thousands of fans were present. Jackie Shroff, Pravin Tarde, Sajid Nadiadwala and Anil Sharma were among the celebrities who attended.

Patekar died after a severe cardiac arrest at his home in Goa on Thursday morning. He had felt uneasy in the early hours and called a friend. He was then taken to hospital, where doctors tried to revive him for about 45 minutes. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed his death to ANI.

He was given full state honours in Pune, a solemn farewell to one of India's most celebrated actors.
