Kim Ji-won is back on the screens with Doctor X: Mafia in White. The Queen of Tears star plays Gye Su-jeong, a surgical genius who is brought into a powerful university hospital. Her lack of patience for hierarchy, politics and arrogant doctors puts her into trouble as she navigates her life.
The drama is a medical noir, rather than a conventional hospital romance or feel-good medical series. The makers have confirmed the series to be a Korean adaptation of the Japanese medical drama Doctor X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon. This Korean drama is set to premiere on October 9, 2026, at 9:50 p.m. KST.
What Is Doctor X: Mafia in White About?
At the centre of the story is Gye Su-jeong, popularly known as ‘Mad Guy of the Operating Room’ because of her extraordinary surgical ability and uncompromising approach to medicine.
She arrives at Guseo University Hospital through a doctor-placement agency and quickly finds herself confronting an institution where power, money and hierarchy are deeply entrenched.
SBS describes the series as a medical drama in which Su-jeong leads the drama to become a ‘medical hero’ confronting corruption inside the hospital.
The central conflict, then, is not simply whether Su-jeong can perform complicated surgeries. It is what happens when a doctor who refuses to compromise enters a system built around compromise.
