The first light fog of the season enveloped the region on Saturday morning, significantly affecting visibility until 7:00 am. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature dropped to 8.7 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest day of the season so far.
While the fog gradually lifted as the day progressed and bright sunshine emerged after 10:00 am, the cold conditions persisted throughout the day.
Weather Forecast: Temperatures To Dip Further
Weather experts predict that temperatures will continue to fall toward the end of December. As the mercury drops, the cold in the mornings and evenings is expected to intensify, accompanied by denser fog.
Cloud Cover: Light cloud cover is expected to persist until December 19, which could lead to a continuous drop in night-time temperatures.
Fog Intensity: An increase in humidity and cold winds in the coming days is likely to worsen fog conditions.
Double Trouble: Cold Meets Pollution
The onset of cold weather has been compounded by persistent air pollution. Dust and smoke particles trapped by moisture created a haze during the morning hours. Experts state that the current mix of pollution and moisture is affecting air quality, and complete relief is unlikely without strong winds or rain.
Relief For Farmers
From an agricultural perspective, the shift in weather is considered beneficial. The combination of cold temperatures and fog is expected to boost the growth of Rabi crops, particularly wheat and mustard. The moisture also reduces the immediate need for irrigation, increasing the likelihood of better production yields.
