Jagran Correspondent, Jokihat (Araria): Junior Electrical Engineer of Electricity Supply Branch, Jokihat, Raj Narayan Thakur, has appealed to the electricity consumers of the block area to take maximum benefit of the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

He explained that under this ambitious Central Government scheme, consumers can save substantially on their electricity bills by installing rooftop solar plants on their rooftops. They can also generate income by selling excess electricity to the grid.

What consumers get under the scheme

Under the scheme, eligible consumers will receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month. The government is providing subsidies of approximately 30,000 rupees for a one-kilowatt solar plant, 60,000 rupees for a two-kilowatt plant, and up to 78,000 rupees for a three-kilowatt plant (up to a maximum of 10 kilowatts).

Loan facility available

The Junior Engineer urged the consumers that for those who do not have a lump sum available, bank loans are also available at low interest rates without collateral. The instalments can be easily repaid from the savings on their electricity bills. Interested consumers can apply online on the scheme's official portal.

Applications and detailed information regarding the scheme can also be obtained from the Jokihat Electricity Supply Branch. Appealing to all domestic consumers, shopkeepers, and the general public to take advantage of the scheme, he said that adopting solar energy can not only save on electricity bills but also make a significant contribution to environmental protection.

Assistant Electrical Engineer Jiakesh Kumar stated that on July 24, 2026, at a program chaired by the District Magistrate in the Parman Auditorium in Araria, Jokihat consumer Manoj Bhagat was presented with a bank loan approval certificate for installing a 5-kilowatt rooftop solar plant under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. On this occasion, the District Magistrate urged consumers to take maximum advantage of the scheme.
