New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A Delhi Court on Monday found Ariz Khan guilty of killing inspector Mohan Chand Sharma in the Batla House encounter case that happened on September 19, 2008, saying the prosecution has successfully proved the case. The court said it will hear the arguments on the point of sentencing on March 15 at 12 noon.
The court said that Khan, who is allegedly associated with the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, and his associates "intentionally" murdered Sharma and injured Head Constable Balwant Singh and Rajbir Singh.
"Ariz Khan is held guilty and convicted under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 27 of the Arms Act," the Delhi Court said, as reported by news agency IANS.
Ariz has been convicted under section 186, 333, 353, 302, 307, 174(a) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 27 of the Arms Act.
Khan was at the spot of the Batla House encounter in Delhi's Jamia Nagar but had managed to escape from the Delhi Police. He was later arrested on February 14, 2018.
While Khan managed to give a slip to police, two suspected terrorists, Atif Ameen and Mohammad Sajid, were killed in the encounter and two other suspects, Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan, were arrested.
The incident took place a week after five serial blasts occurred in Delhi on 13 September 2008 in which at least 30 people were killed and over 100 injured.
Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Special Cell was killed during the 2008 Batla House encounter.
A trial court in July 2013 had sentenced Indian Mujahideen terrorist Shahzad Ahmed to life imprisonment in connection with the Batla House encounter case. His appeal against the trial court's verdict has been pending in the high court.
