Sharing a post on X, the LOP said the theft of Assam's and West Bengal's mandate led the way towards destroying Indian democracy. “Some in the Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss. They need to understand this clearly—the theft of Assam and Bengal’s mandate is a big step forward by the BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy. Put petty politics aside. This is not about one party or another. This is about India," he wrote on X.
His remarks came after Mamata Banerjee also made strong allegations against the Election Commission, saying the BJP had “looted more than 100 seats” and calling the EC “the BJP’s commission.”
Rahul Gandhi Speaks To Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin.
Earlier on Monday, Rahul Gandhi had spoken with Mamata Banerjee and MK Stalin after the election results on Monday, according to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. The Congress contested West Bengal polls on its own, taking on TMC and the BJP.
"This evening, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi spoke to Mamata Banerjee Ji and Thiru MK Stalin about the election results. He also congratulated the president of the TVK, Thiru Vijay, on the party's performance," Jairam Ramesh said on X.
In another post, Rahul Gandhi said, "Assam and Bengal are clear cases of the election being stolen by the BJP with the support of the EC. We agree with Mamata ji. More than 100 seats were stolen in Bengal. We have seen this playbook before: Madhya Pradesh. Haryana. Maharashtra, Lok Sabha 2024, etc. Chunav chori, sanstha chori—ab aur chara hi kya hai! (Election theft, institutional theft—what is the option now)."
The BJP swept away the TMC in nine of the 23 districts of West Bengal, racking up all 68 seats these regions had to offer on its way to paint the state saffron in the watershed election.

As the saffron party rose to power in the state for the first time, the mandate in these nine districts, from north Bengal’s hills to the central part of the south—has shown that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had correctly predicted on his campaign trail that TMC would fail to open its account in multiple districts.
The result also marked the BJP’s decisive breach of its last major eastern bastion, completing its saffron arc across ‘Anga, Banga, and Kalinga’ (Bihar, Bengal, and Odisha).
