The political standoff in West Bengal around the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral list continues to intensify as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, of ‘misleading’ after she claimed that she herself did not fill the SIR form.
The Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, made the statement during a rally in Krishnanagar, claiming that she had not filled out her form, as she alleged that such demands were attempts to force her to “prove" her citizenship.
Calling her claim fake, the BJP said that she ‘had submitted her duly filled and signed Enumeration Form on the very last day, yet just hours earlier from a rally in Krishnanagar, she falsely claimed she would not submit it at all’.

The BJP IT cell head, Amit Malviya, slammed Mamata Banerjee for her alleged fake claim through an X post and accused her of deliberately misleading the public despite having filed her enumeration form.
“West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again shown her instinct to mislead. She submitted her duly filled and signed Enumeration Form on the very last day, yet just hours earlier from a rally in Krishnanagar, she falsely claimed she would not submit it at all," he wrote.
He further said that EC did not extend the timeline of the SIR process because almost ‘100 per cent of voters’ have filed and submitted their SIR forms.

The West Bengal CM accused the BJP of trying to take away women’s rights and is using SIR as a medium to ‘terrify’ voters.
She urged women voters to lead the fight against SIR and men to support them from behind. “Through SIR, they want to take away the rights of women. During elections, they want to use Central forces to terrify the women," she said.
From Delhi, the BJP is sending people to pressurise the district magistrates with the intent of removing 1.5 crore names from the electoral list," she said. She further warned the government that she would launch a sit-in protest if any voter was ‘deliberately removed.’
