Bengaluru Rain: At least 10 people got killed, streets got overflooded, and several key regions witnessed power outages- all in just 40 minutes of intense rainfall in Bengaluru. Along with rainfall, the residents of Bengaluru also witnessed heavy surface winds, thunderstorm, and lightning. The rainfall was expected to bring relief from the scorching heat by reducing temperature; however, it created chaos within an hour. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted that the city is likely to receive more rainfall in the upcoming days.
The wall of Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar collapsed due to the rainfall, leading to the tragic death of seven people. The authorities informed that streets around several regions, including MG Road, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Silk Board, Banashankari and BTM Layout witnessed waterlogging due to the heavy rain, leading to inconvenience to the commuters. Apart from this, vehicles were seen half-submerged on the roads across central and eastern parts of the city.
The Bookworm, a popular bookstore on the Church Street, reportedly lost around 4,000 books to floodwater; however, the owner is yet to release a public statement. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later visited Shivajinagar and instructed the officials to take necessary steps to normalise the situation.
In its fresh advisory, the weather department stated that the capital city of Karnataka is set to witness more rain and heavy wind in the next 48 hours. The continuous rainfall is likely to reduce the temperature by three to four degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief from the heat. However, the residents are expected to witness issues like waterlogging and power outages in the upcoming days.
The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings during the rainfall to avoid any inconveniences. Along with Bengaluru, several other districts of Karnataka, including Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkote, Koppal, Dharwad, Gadag, Ballari, Vijayanagara, and Haveri.
