Bhopal Metro is all set to make a debut with its priority Orange line set to begin on December 21. The inauguration of the metro is set to take place on December 20. Travel on the Bhopal Metro is set to be very affordable as rides will be 100 per cent free for the first week. 

This means that for a week, residents will be able to enjoy the metro without spending a single penny. After that, fares will range between Rs 20 to Rs 40, just like Indore Metro, making them pocket-friendly and affordable for everyone. Subsequently, a committee will be formed to regulate the ticket fare, according to an official of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, cited by Free Press Journal.

Bhopal Metro: Key Details

  • The gates of the Bhopal metro train will open and close for just 40 seconds when it becomes operational from December 20. 

  • The passengers will have to reach the gate and board/de-board within the stipulated time. 

  • Travel time of the metro train between two stations will be three minutes. 

  • According to a source of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, cited by Free Press Journal, the trains will have three coaches in total with a carrying capacity of 750 people. 

  • The first phase of the metro, which will be operational, will run on a stretch of 7.3 km.

  • Only one of the two Bhopal metro lines, the blue line and the priority orange corridor, will be open for the common people.

  • In the next phase of the project, two underground metro stations, one in the Bhopal railway station area and the other at Nadra Bus stand, will be constructed, stretching for a distance of 3.5 km.

  • The metro will run from 8 am in the morning to 8 pm in the morning.

When Will The Bhopal Metro Be Inaugurated?

The Bhopal Metro will be inaugurated at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre at 4 PM on December 20. The programme will be around 45 minutes’ duration. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Khattar and CM Mohan Yadav will be present on the occasion. At 5 PM, both of them will reach Subhash Nagar station and board the metro train, travelling to the AIIMS.
