Here's a breakdown of why seven key seats across Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura went to the polls:

- Umreth (Gujarat): The by-election follows the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Govindbhai Parmar in March. His son is contesting to retain the seat for the party, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has withdrawn from the race.

- Bagalkot (Karnataka): The by-poll was announced following the death of former Minister and Congress leader HY Meti.

- Davanagere South (Karnataka): By-election was held following the passing of incumbent Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa.

- Baramati (Maharashtra): By-poll was necessitated by the tragic death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in January.

- Rahuri (Maharashtra): The by-election to the Rahuri constituency in Maharashtra was held after the seat fell vacant following the passing of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile.

- Koridang (Nagaland): By-election was announced following the death of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen.

- Dharmanagar (Tripura): By-poll was necessitated following the passing of the incumbent MLA and Assembly Speaker, Biswa Bandhu Sen of the BJP, The Indian Express reported.

Ponda (Goa): By-Election Cancelled

The bypoll for the Ponda constituency was cancelled following an order from the Bombay High Court on petitions filed by Pritam Harmalkar and Ankita Kamat, who had challenged the validity of the election notification.

The seat had originally fallen vacant following the death of the incumbent BJP MLA and former Goa Chief Minister, Ravi Naik.
