Cash for Query Scam: Responding to the news of the constitution of the CBI probe against her, Mahua Moitra took to X to launch a scathing attack on the Adani group. She took a jibe at CBI and asked the central agency to launch a probe against the Gujrat-based conglomerate in a so-called Rs 13,000 crore Adani coal Scam.
While insinuating the call for a CBI probe, Mahua said the CBI is more than welcome to come to her house to count her shoes.
"[The] CBI needs to first file FIR on ₹13,000 crore Adani coal scam. National security issue is how dodgy FPI owned (inc Chinese & UAE ) Adani firms buying Indian ports & airports with @HMOIndia clearance," she wrote on X.
"Then CBI welcome to come, count my shoes," TMC MP added.
Earlier, BJP MP and senior leader Nishikant Dubey claimed that the anti-corruption institution Lokpal has ordered a CBI investigation against the TMC MP Mahua Moitra over corruption allegations in the 'Cash-for-Query scam'. BJP MP, who levelled allegations against Mahua Moitra, took to X on Wednesday and wrote that the Lokpal's order came after his complaint.
"Lokpal today ordered a CBI inquiry into the corruption committed by accused MP Mahua ji on my complaint for compromising national security," he wrote.
The "cash-for-query" scandal involves accusations against Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), who is alleged to have received bribes in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. These claims were made by Nishikant Dubey, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that Moitra accepted payments from Darshan Hiranandani, a Dubai-based businessman, to raise parliamentary questions targeting the Adani Group.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Ethics Committee, which may draw insights from a similar cash-for-query case in 2005. In that instance, all 11 suspected Members of Parliament were disqualified for allegedly accepting payment for their questions.
