As the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest in Delhi demanding Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation as Education Minister intensified, the Centre's initially proposed shifting him to another ministry, according to a report.

NDTV reported, citing sources, that during discussions with the CJP, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh proposed to the team that Dharmendra Pradhan be replaced.

CJP Rejected Centre's Proposal

According to sources, Nadda and Singh proposed shifting Pradhan from the Education to another ministry to break the deadlock, but Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were negotiating on behalf of the CJP, rejected it.

The CJP insisted on Pradhan's resignation from the government, making it clear that the protesters would not be satisfied with anything other than his resignation. According to sources, central ministers told the CJP that removing a minister or changing their portfolios is the prime minister's prerogative.

'Anger May Spread Among Protesters': CJP

The CJP stated that there would be no compromise on anything other than Pradhan's resignation. Sources also stated that those negotiating on behalf of the CJP believed that agreeing to anything less than Pradhan's resignation could spark widespread anger among the protesters. Additionally, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also backed the move stating that changing Pradhan's portfolio would not satisfy either the students or the Opposition.

Dharmendra Pradhan ultimately submitted his resignation on Saturday, following third round of talks between the CJP and Union ministers. Following this, the CJP withdrew its protest.

While sharing the update in a post on his X handle, Pradhan informed that he has sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further stated that the recent developments had affected him, adding that the issue was not a matter of personal reputation.

"To ensure that anti-national elements are not benefitted by the situation at Jantar Mantar and across the country, that the nation remains united, students in India do not get tangled in legal complexities and focus on their studies and their career, I have tendered my resignation to the Prime Minister," Pradhan's letter read.
