In a tragic accident, a three-year-old boy was killed after a heavy iron beam fell on him during an underground sewerage project in Chennai. According to police officials, the heavy pipe came crashing down after the lifting attachment of a bulldozer snapped while a concrete sewage tank was being lowered into a pit, as per India Today.

The accident took place on Saturday in KS Nagar, where civic work was underway to install a large underground sewage system. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, led to the detention of three people.

A CCTV footage from a nearby shop shows a man walking with the child before turning into another lane. Moments later, a heavy iron beam suddenly collapses onto the road, striking the boy. Bystanders immediately rushed to the scene and attempted to lift the beam before taking the child to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the boy succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, a large pit had been dug in the middle of the road as part of the sewerage project. A bulldozer was being used to lower a concrete sewage tank into the pit when the lifting attachment, commonly known as the loader arm, snapped. The failure caused a heavy iron beam attached to the equipment to come crashing down on the child.
