In a shocking incident, a well-known Chennai doctor and his family were found dead in their home, with police suspecting financial distress as the reason behind their tragic end.
The deceased has been identified as Dr. Balamurugan, a reputed sonologist, along with his wife Sumathi, a practicing advocate at the Madras High Court, and their two sons, aged 17 and 15.
Massive Debt Behind Suspected Suicide
According to police officials, Dr. Balamurugan was struggling with a debt of Rs 5 crore, which severely impacted his ability to manage both his business and household expenses. His financial troubles allegedly led to the family's suspected suicide as cited in a NDTV report.
The incident came to light when the family’s driver arrived at their home and, upon receiving no response, alerted the police. When authorities broke into the house, they discovered all four family members hanging in two separate rooms.

What Neighbours Witnessed?
Reports suggest that neighbours were also alerted when the driver knocked on the door repeatedly but got no response. When they peered through a window, they reportedly saw the bodies hanging and immediately informed the police.
Dr. Balamurugan operated a scan centre in Chennai’s Anna Nagar, along with multiple branches in other cities, employing over 50 staff members. However, financial struggles seem to have pushed him and his family into extreme distress.
Separate Incident in Hyderabad
In a similar heartbreaking case, a family of four was found dead in Hyderabad’s Ravindranagar Colony, Habsiguda. Preliminary investigations indicate that the parents may have taken their children's lives before ending their own, allegedly due to a financial crisis. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and police are continuing their investigation.
