A day after seven people were killed in the collapse of a boys’ PG in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday released a seven-point list of demands, calling for a probe into the “larger PG mafia” and the construction of more hostels for students.

Most of those killed in the incident were Delhi University students. Several others were injured after the multi-storey building collapsed in southwest Delhi. The PG owner, his wife and son were arrested on Monday.

In a post on X, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das demanded compensation for the families of those killed and the injured. He also called for “ministerial accountability to be fixed.”

Here are CJP's key demands:

- The party has demanded an “independent criminal investigation” into the collapse, saying the probe should go beyond the PG owner and examine the “nexus between the owner, politicians, and other persons.”

- It has also sought an immediate, engineering-grade structural audit of buildings, particularly schools, colleges and student accommodation, within a fixed timeframe. It also called for the rehabilitation of students and strict enforcement of norms, including sealing illegal constructions and penalising owners.

- Another demand is for a public, searchable database that would allow students to check whether a student accommodation establishment has been sanctioned and declared safe.

- The CJP has also urged the government to construct more hostels for Delhi University and other students. The party claimed that hostels across DU can currently accommodate only around 7,000 students, highlighting what it described as a shortage of safe and affordable student accommodation.

- It has further demanded compensation of up to Rs 1 crore for the families of those who died and Rs 20 lakh for those injured in the Satya Niketan collapse.

- The outfit also flagged the 13 district committees constituted after the Malviya Nagar hotel fire incident on June 3, 2026. The committees were tasked with identification, auditing, enforcement and sealing.

“Publish all its records, including its enforcement reports, including of Satya Niketan surveys, WITHIN 48 HOURS,” Das said in his post, alleging that the committees have “become defunct within 3 months”. He also called for “full transparency” regarding their functioning.

- Lastly, the CJP has called for “ministerial accountability” to be fixed, specifically questioning the role of Ashish Sood, Delhi’s urban development & planning and education minister.

Delhi HC orders ‘high-level’ MCD inquiry

The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered a high-level MCD inquiry into the Satya Niketan building collapse that left seven people dead, while making it clear that the government cannot evade responsibility.

The High Court, describing the incident as "most unfortunate", said such tragedies were the result of inadequate measures adopted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other authorities.

The court also directed the authorities to double their rescue efforts so that lives could be saved.
